What a wonderful feeling
I’m happy again

– Gene Kelly, Singin’ in the Rain.

Genghis Khan (c.1167-1227). Mongol leader – arguably the greatest conqueror in history. Born near Lake Baikal, he succeeded his father as tribal chieftain at the age of thirteen. By 1206 he had subdued almost all of Mongolia. In 1215 his armies entered Beijing, and by 1218 he had reached as far as Korea. In 1219 he turned towards the west, occupying Northern India, Pakistan, Iran and Iraq. In 1222 he invaded Russia. He died on August 18, 1227. The Mongol Empire was divided among his three sons.

The sumptuous, spiky, gilt perversity of Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) – his Viennese-Byzantine lovers, heraldic sphinxes, mosaic murals.

Gene Kelly (1912-?). American dancer, choreographer, actor, and director, best known for film musicals such as An American in Paris (1951) and Singin' in the Rain (1952).
